Dissociative Identity Disorder Awareness Day

Thursday, March 5, 2020

March 5th is Dissociative Identity Disorder Awareness Day. Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)is also known as Multiple Personality Disorder. National Allice on Mental Illness (NAMI) reports that symptoms often begin as a response to a traumatic event and may include memory loss of a specific time, out-of-body experiences, depression, anxiety or thoughts of suicide, sense of detachment, and lack of self-identity. According to NAMI, “Up to 75% <https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15022041> of people experience at least one depersonalization/derealization episode in their lives, with only 2%<https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15022041> meeting the full criteria for chronic episodes.” For more information on DID, visit https://www.nami.org/Learn-More/Mental-Health-Conditions/Dissociative-Disorders. Show your support and new understanding of DID by using the hashtag #DissociativeIdentityDisorderAwarenessDay to bring awareness to Dissociative Identity Disorder!
